THESE are the girls set to bring royalty back to Halifax Charity Gala. Wearing the crown will be 14-year-old Sophie Farrell, of Boothtown, Halifax. Her attendant will be Holy Trinity Senior School student Coral Mileham, 15, from Illingworth, Halifax.
Sophie, a pupil at Hipperholme and Lightcliffe High School, said: "I'm really excited. I always go to the gala and am really looking forward to being gala queen."
For Coral, the gala runs in her family. Her aunt, Deborah Akroyd, was also a gala attendant.
The pair and their mothers will travel along the gala day procession on June 13 in an open-top bus provided by TJ Walsh.
The gala had a queen from the first event in 1952 until 2002 when the role was abandoned in favour of a more politically correct "ambassador". But the title was dropped a year later because of a lack of uptake.
Gala marshal Terence Sutcliffe said: "You can't have a gala without a gala queen."
